What is the NEW RULE you’d like to discuss; the Big Idea/ Strategy to help with this new world we live in:
“The media is everybody and everybody is media (to quote my friend Mark Ramsey).
In other words, there are no gatekeepers any more. If I want to write a song, launch a show or publish a book, I don’t need someone else’s permission to do that.
The internet has single-handedly democratized every traditional industry.”
Why it’s important; benefits both personally and professionally:
“It’s important because it means the sky’s the limit. There’s nothing holding you back from whatever you want to do except you.”
How to accomplish the above:
“A computer, an internet connection and some stick-to-itiveness!”
I (Holli) would like to add ~ Get a mentor and join a Mastermind Group.
Jim Rohn – “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”
What do you do to stay motivated or the secret for your motivation:
“Check the outstanding bills on my desk against my online banking statement. That’ll motivate you pretty quickly. 😉 “
I encourage people to take time for themselves each and every day. One of the ways to relax is to read a good book. A Fiction Book. What is your Favorite Book:
“Fiction? I’d say probably Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit”
To be successful, Jeff had to lose a lot of bad habits, and work on becoming better at his trade.
When you come to the table “warts and all” and let people know that, you become more approachable and more relatable. Let the failings come through – be more real, honest and authentic about who you are and what’s going on in your life.
Jeff was in preparatory mode for leaving his industry: did things in the “margin of life,” working on new income streams and diversifying them.
His desire to step away was right on but then he was let go before he was 100% ready. Over time he realized that losing his job was the greatest thing that ever happened to him. Years ago – losing his security and safety net – would have scared him to death. Now he wants freedom – to live life to the fullest.
The nature of work is changing – there are no guarantees for anyone.
While working, flush out a passion, start developing something you like whether you would make money at it or not.
In a job, one person’s decision can change it all …
The Media is everybody and everybody is media.
You can do whatever you want to do: “stop waiting to be picked, pick yourself.” The sky’s the Limit. No one is holding you back, except you. This is liberating …
Be deliberate and intentional on who you spend your time with, both live and virtually. Hang out with people who are like minded and have similar goals, aspirations and drive. The idea is to challenge and encourage each other, as well as to offer help when someone in the group is struggling whether it be personally or business. Everyone has different skill sets so they are equipped to help you and you them – reciprocity.
